A subspecies of the White Spruce, it has a strongly conical form, slower growth rate and denser foliage, making it preferable as a specimen tree for suburban lawns.  It can grow to a height of 80', but responds well to pruning and can be used as a hedge or even bonsai.

This species holds the record for the longest living single tree in the world at approximately 4800 years old.  It is a smaller pine slowly growing to 40' in an irregular habit and often has contorted branches.  They offer themselves as a great focal accent in rockbeds and do extremely well as bonsai.  They require full sun and do well in dry to well-drained soils.
